 Area Activities

 There are a LOT of activities close to Fish Creek. Check below for scheduled activities at various locations.

Close By:

Paddle right from your site up Fish Creek to Little Square Pond. Additional ponds accessible via short portages.

Paddle up Follensby Clear Pond for peace, quiet and tranquility.

If you don't mind driving a short distance, you could also access some fine kayaking/canoeing in middle or lower Saranac Lake from the launch at Lower Saranac on Route 3.

Canoe through a connecting waterway to Upper Saranac Lake for a totally different vista, past many camps and large lake scenery. Pack a lunch!

An extensive network of hiking trails are available. Pass various ponds including Rollins Pond Campground.

Bike through the park on the pave roadway that encompases the three ponds. Total loop distance is about 6 miles.

You can also bike up into Rollins Pond... if you don't mind the hills!


Visit the Adirondack Visitor Interpretive Center at Paul Smiths (20 min drive north). This is an environmental education and traveler orientation center with both indoor facilities, an outdoor butterfly conservatory, and offers miles of scenic, surfaced trails that feature local ecology and a goregous bog.

Within Driving Distance:

Visit the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain (60 min drive south).

Called "the best of its kind in the world," by The New York Times, the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake overlooks the lake of the same name. There are 20 buildings on 32 acres of grounds and gardens, house exhibits on logging, boats and boating, mining, outdoor recreation, transportation, rustic furniture., and on-going programs and special events offer a variety of interesting activities.



Visit the Sagamore, a historic great Camp located in Raquette Lake (80 min drive south).

The Sagamore Institute of the Adirondacks, Inc. Is an independent non-profit corporation dedicated to the stewardship of Great Camp Sagamore, in Raquette Lake, NY, and to its use for educational and interpretive purposes. Great Camp Sagamore is a National Historic Landmark in the heart of the Adirondacks. They use the beauty of its location and the power of its tours and programs to foster understanding, care and respect for nature, people and their critical interdependence.

Visit the Wild Center, a brand new natural history museum located in Tupper Lake, about 35 minutes south of Fish Creek

Hiking in the Adirondack Mountains. Ampersand Mountain is one of the closest hikes, about a 30 min drive south towards Saranac Lake.

Visit/shop in Saranac Lake.

Visit/shop in Lake Placid.

Visit and ride the gondola to the summit of Whiteface Mountain. You can also drive to the summit as well, or if your in shape, hike to the top!

Visit the Lake Placid Ski Jumping Facility.

Visit the High Falls Gorge in the shadow of Whiteface Mountain. You can take a nature walk to view the Ausable River as it spills over ancient granite cliffs. Sturdy bridges, walkways and groomed paths provide safe access to breathtaking views and photographic vantage points.

Tour one of the worlds's most beautiful lakes, Lake Placid in a enclosed, turn-of-the-century boat. This hour long narrated tour travels 16 miles around Lake Placid past camps of the rich and famous.

Go golfing at the Saranac Inn Golf & Country Club located just minutes north of Fish Creek on Route 30.

A popular 'outting' for Fish Creek campers is the 15min car trip to the famous Donelly's Ice Cream shop located at the junction of Rte 86 and 186 between Gabriels and Saranac Lake.
