Camp Site Sign Replacement

Postby CampADK on Mon Jun 11, 2012 2:22 pm

DEC's policy apparently is that all campgrounds must have yellow on brown for all signs including camp # signs. Therefore they have started to replace the current site signs with new ones. If your 'in the hood' ask maintenance for your favorite number! Not sure where

they are now, but many campers have been get their favorite number. If you are looking for Site 143

... sorry we picked that one out of the box. I know Site 186

also has a new home already.

They are still swapping out the numbers this week so you might have to wait a few days to get your favorite.

That is another fine example of New York States waste

ful spending. To remove a perfectly good sign just because the color is wrong is ridiculous. Why

couldn't they just replace bad/broken ones with the new signs. How about some new bathrooms, pave the road inside the park, add electric!!! I am appalled!

I'd think the sign replacement would be applied to Rollins as well. Can't confirm this though.

Policy is policy I guess.

You should see all the construction on route 30! The state is forcing the hydro (electric?) company to move all their poles 1 foot as they are on state property or something. Looks pretty funny to see all those trucks, workers and resources being used to add new poles inches away from their current position.

The old site signs at the FC are not available
Click for more info!

to the public.
All signage at FC is reviewed on a seasonal basis to deem which need replacement or which signs are needed for that particular park .
The signage used for sites at FC was finally approved this season however not all Parks will change

said signage untill funding for such matters are approved.
Every season DEC staff all over NYS put forth a magor effort to allocate such funds for these campgrounds to include road , bathroom and other much needed repairs.
Please write your local congressmen or senator and tell them how much you love your parks ! Furthermore please remember that the Park employee's do all they can to help ensure a safe and pleasant visit for all campers .

Yup we heard today when

we arrived that powers above said signs are no longer to be offered.

Great to hear this (and any other) more official updates on various matters that campers might be interested in.

Cheers!

Maybe they should sell the old signs to help pay for the new ones. At the very least they should be sold as seasoned firewood

. I am sure some actual dry wood would catch a premium at FCP.

Actually paint wood does not make good firewood

. They probably consider the signs state property which they can't sell (nor give away).

Haven't seen anymore signs being replaced this week. I'd say about 30% have been replaced at this point.

Knowing the state, they will probably rent storage some where

for $250,000 a month to store them for a year, then throw them out rather than give them to campers !!

At least the new signs will fit the Adirondack theme a little better.

Maybe they should have used that money towards fixing or replacing some of the horrible bathrooms. Like from the 140's to the mid 200's

Or fire pits! Every year I write in the suggestion box that I would gladly pay an extra buck or three a visit to go into a fire pit fund. Been doing it since I stated coming (read paying my own way) on my own since the 90's. Oh well. I just want the best for one of my favorite places on earth.

I agree with you guys... I think the bathrooms at state parks and/or fire pits could be updated/replaced.

They have refurbished a few bathrooms at FCP this year and replaced 42 fireplaces actually.
