Have begun to pack for opening weekend. Have put the snow

tires on the trailer. The snow shovels are packed along with the ice skates. Am thinking of putting runners on the kayaks

and try ice paddling! Just have one question

...Is there a water source open that early or do we need to bring water?

Good question

. Kate says we brought our own water. There is water in the heated bathroom. Early season the water is kinda milky... I'd suggest bringing some, and perhaps top up on the beer / wine. :D

We usually have a few kids willing to be the first to jump in First Pond. Might have to bring an ice ager this year to prep the pond.

for opening weekend may have to pack snow shovels to clear off the sites. Maybe we can all get together and go snowshoeing. Lol
I remember there being a late season storm last year I think around the second week of May. We arrived on a Thurs and there were still traces of snow on the ground. I talked to some guys that had been in fishing all week and were there for the storm. It was the typical late season storm with wet heavy snow. You could see where

Winter storm warning was downgraded to a "winter weather advisory" this afternoon. But there is no warm up in the forecast for the whole of next week.

No snow here in Winthrop. I think most of the area missed this one.

The snow appears to have gone south of Fish Creek. Mom (in Saranac, not Saranac Lake) didn't get any nor did we (an hour north of Fish Creek). The bad news is that the snowbanks are probably still there (since we still have some large ones) -- They plow the road as far

, and that made some hefty snowbanks through that area. Temperatures are not going

to be above the low 40s this week, so not much melting will take place.

The good news is the robins are back!

Sigh! Over 2" of snow here this morning, which does not bode well for Fish Creek. They always get about double what

snow is rapidly melting away here in the southern Adirondacks. Temps are daily in the 40's with 60's predicted for the weekend and into next week.

I meticulously used the snow blower to fill our entire front year to an almost even depth of about 6 feet. Most of it is two feet or less now and rapidly receding.

There is hope, but I suggest that folks bring along plenty of propane, shovels, and warm clothing. If we were going

up for opening weekend, I think I'd put the snowblower in the truck... :)

Word of caution on opening weekend. Pay attention to salting of the roads involving your trailer(s) be sure to really rinse off the undercarriages afterwards. For most trailers the gas piping is exposed underneath and is just cast iron. If you also have water and electical connections exposed it is important to get that all cleaned ASAP to reduce problems later on. I would also cover the refrig vent door and cover the water heater and vents for the trip. The water heater is a problem normally without salt. I good rust preventative is a product from 3M called "Inner panel rust proofing" It is a spray on that is like a non hardening varnish. It looks messy but in places not seen it does a good job. (be careful not spray it where

there would be a flame).
