New Webcams

Postby CampADK on Fri Apr 08, 2011 10:46 am

I've added another 2 area webcams to the home page including Upper Saint Regis and Paul Smiths which will give you a better idea of weather, snow

and ice at Fish Creek. I'll add these to the top of the forum page as well once I get around to a bit of revamp on the forum itself.

Cheers

They should put in a web cam at the rangers booth either facing out to the main road or into the camp so we can get our daily FC fix.

How about high up on a pole at the washroom along the gold coast.. you know that one slightly nice site that has a great view of Whiteface.... would be nice to be able to watch

all the watersports activities. How about pointed at the narrows?

At the trading post

would have been great too. Phil hasn't been keeping the connection running though the last year. Would be easy enough to mount a web cam up under the roof. Would serve to monitor breakins too!

I notice that the Chapel Island

Explorer (like a lot of things). Does it work for anyone on a later version of Internet Explorer? Maybe on Vista or Windows 7? It's pretty basic, common stuff... but alas Microsoft is years behind.. It's really frustrating to deal with all the issues of Internet Explorer, but if someone can let me know that would be great, so I know whether to disable that cam for IE users. I'm going

to put a list of all the functions that aren't available

to Internet Explorer users on the site. I've disabled those I have found not to work which includes some of the main functionality of the site. I just don't have the time to find

workarounds for the short comings and bugs in Internet Explorer.. might just end up disabling the site completely for Internet Explorer users which would mean forcing users to move over to a modern web browser to access this site... ok enough of my daily rant on Microsoft

Amazing... webcams, especially those like the Panasonic used at Chapel Island

have been around for a good 5 years and are quite popular. IE still isn't able to access them. Tsk!

Luckily Internet Explorer has been loosing market share over the years and now shares 25% of the browser market, same as Chrome. Firefox is used by 42% of users. Chrome, athough quite new, has been gaining the most market share as people ditch IE, and Chrome has been eating into Firefox's market share as well. Chrome is headed to the top spot if current trends persist.

I have Windows Vista & I cannot get to the webcam from this website. I have to go directly to http://www.uppersaranac.com to access it. I have no problem getting into the Park Motel webcam. Looks like a lot of snow

still ! I also set up Google Chrome to use for this site in case I couldn't access something.

Yes IE can display most webcams since they are just a link to an image file. It requires some extra code and the user has to download an add on to view the Chapel Island

Webcam however, which many people won't do. Nothing to do for users of any other browser.

Have not met a Webcam that IE on my pc's have not liked. I see the Chapel Island

web cam just fine and have for years. I can even see the image on your site at work, which is really nice since that and the guideboat realty cams are both blocked by the office filter. There is even a neat one on an island cottage on Osceeta. It is usually vacant and you get to see the wildlife go by.

You would have downloaded the active X code required way back when
Click for more info!

. Some people don't wont download it so they don't get to see it, or have active X disabled. Not sure if Vista/Windows 7 still requires that. The webcam images I show on the home page are straight jpegs so anyone with any browser can view them. They are only sampled every hour however.
