Tote Upgrade!

Postby CampADK on Mon Sep 13, 2010 4:32 pm

We are looking to upgrade our 22 gallon tote to something with 4 wheels, probably a 25 Gallon 4 Wheel Barker Tote. (ie easier on the back!)

Does anyone know who

stocks these in the Adirondacks? Plattsburg, Syracuse, Lake George areas perhaps?
Seen them for about $189 online, but the shipping is a killer. I can order one here in Canada, but its a whopping $587.60 after tax!

The place I have seen them is in Plattsburg, I think Integrety RV. I know they have the 2 wheel and believe I did see the 4 wheel. Was interested in a four wheel as you are. Thought I could rig it to tow behind a bicycle.

I'll check the place in Plattsburg and Potsdam. We drive through Potsdam all the time (our way home route) so that would be easy! Thanks!

We had a Thetford SmartTote (Dump Station

Fish Creek has a large dump station facility located on the road that heads up towards the Rollin Ponds campground at site 135. The recyling station is also located here.

-tanks/6073 and hated it. Because the sewer hose is built in and slides into the tank, it takes up space that could be used for grey water. Because the hose is on top, it is very very difficult to empty the tank completely without lifting it up and turning it almost upside down. The tow handle pops off the hitch of the truck, so you have to make sure you haven't lost your tank on a bump on the way to the dumping station

.

We went back to a simpler blue tank that Momot's in Plattsburgh ordered for us. It actually tows much better and is easier to use.

We own two 18 gallon totes. These are light enough when

full to set up on the tailgate or in the back of a vehicle and take to dump

without towing. They are a little lower and fit under our drain which is low to begin with. This allows us to take our grey water with us when we go to the showers

and take care of two tasks at once. Usually one is enough but if we are really full I use both. Have a shelf in the back of the pickup and they slide right under it and stay seperate from other items. Looked at larger ones but you have to store them and there were a few bad reviews concerning the Thetfords.

Whats

up with the cost of plastic these days?

I just checked and the price here in Ottawa now is an unbelievable $607.94 after tax for the 25gal tote! Yet $181-189 at many places in the US plus $30 or so for shipping. I could have one delivered for $213 plus tax. Add on top the fact that the US dollar is only $.95 Cdn. Sheesh....

Guess we better start locking up our tote rather than the bikes

at these prices! lol

Why
