I was the other camper that R Pierce was talking about. I was camping in a Little Guy Silver Shadow.
when I arrived on Sunday afternoon (April 22) there was one RV, a family in two tents and a couple in one tent. Monday, April 23 I was the only one camping and then RP arrived on April 24th. Monday morning I woke up to some snow on the ground. Tuesday was a very
windy day with snow/sleet
showers . Wednesday was a pretty good day (although, every day in the Adirondacks is great to me) and I was able to get out and kayak (still had snow/sleet showers). Thursday is when I had to leave and headed to Old Forge. While I only
kayaked on Wednesday, it was an all day trip all around Fish Creek, Rollins Pond (thanks to R Pierce), Whey Pond and others that I don't remember the names. I mountain
biked every day on the trails and around the entire campground. It was my second time at Fish Creek and it did not disappoint. I love snow, so it was sort of a bonus that on and off for the whole week I had a tasting of it. Funny that I couldn't make it up snowmobiling this past year because of the lack of snow and then in April to have it...that's another reason I love the Adirondacks...you never know
what the weather will be like. I stayed warm in the Silver Shadow just by throwing a couple blankets on me at night. In the mornings I started the generator and ran the a portable heater for a few minutes to get dressed...then it was out to play.
I took some pictures, but I cannot
figure out how to download them to this site. I have completed a "blog" for my trip. If you would like to see some pictures you may check it out at: johnsgreatadventures.blogspot.com (again, I am not sure how to install the link so you will have to copy and paste it).
I envy all of you that can get to Fish Creek and the Adirondacks in a couple hours. My trip is around 16 hours. This was my 12th year
kayaking in the Adirondacks. I get a two week vacation, one week of kayaking in the Adirondacks and 2-3 days snowmobiling in the Adirondacks. Hope to be back up this fall and I will be staying at Fish Creek again (have a few days left since I couldn't make it up snowmobiling this year due to the lack of snow).
PS Dave, thanks for your the advice you gave me before heading up. I appreciate it!
